No praise is too high for the absolutely magnificent conducting of Karl Bohm, personal friend of the composer and his best advocate IMO. Bohm's Strauss always sounds so "right!" Here he and the magnificent orchestra are unequaled; it just doesn't get any better than this.

I love Elektra.
Birgit Nilsson is my favorite.

Bohm superlativo

Dissonant cacophony juxtaposed with gorgeous and brilliantly orchestrated music, is one way to describe "Elektra".

I hate it when I find my long-lost brother and all my leitmotifs start playing at once.

@billyguns2 'Birgit NIlsson is my favourite' there you made your mistake. BN is shite - thin, shallow voice with no characterisation. But I like the firts parts of your comments. Have a nice life!

Why didn't Rysanek perform this onstage?!?!?! The role is PERFECT for her! Her mid-range weakness would not have been as noticeable as it was with some of her other recordings, as she sounds better here than her 1967 "Walkure!" DFD is overrated here. Why didn't they get Bernd Weikl? His Jochanaan from Bohm's 1974 "Salome" was wonderful, and I'm pretty sure he performed Orest as well.

Mmmm, overall, rather disappointed wiith this. For me, the dubbed soundtrack spoilt things and I was VERY disappointed with Dietrich F.D. Some of the effects could never have been achieved in the opera house, but it was witten for the stage, and in my opinion is best presented so. Reminded me of a Fritz Lang horror movie, but the rehearsal DVD made up for the observed deficiencies elsewhere.

Next Elektra for Taiwan International Arts Festival with Maestro Shao-Chia Lü and National Symphony Orchestra, March 2011
I believe this becomes available on DVD during November this year.

@straker1999 It is already available on DVD, has been for several years. The package includes also a bonus DVD containing a documentary about making the film. From that one can find where the opera was filmed. Just now I don't remember whether it was a slaughterhouse or an old factory.
