My cousin Heidi wanted an F1 really bad - her husband agreed to buy her one on the grounds she produced a son for him........she got that Norton & later went on to organise the biggest ever UK motorcycle charity event 'Great Northern Run' in aid of 'Make a Wish'
The annual event became so large that it included out-runs led by Rocket Ron & the great man himself, Trevor Nation...I was involved racing at that time & led a run with Trev which turned out to be one of the best rides of my life.
I don't understand racing anymore, There was a time when company's push there products and each other. Now if something different comes up thats better it just get ban! I want to see rotary back in World Superbike, I want to see rotary's back in Le Mans, hell I would kill to see rotary in F1.
I remember watching the coverage on BBC Grandstand of that back straight at Snetterton! They were in another league to the Jap crap, until some idiot got persauded by the Jap teams ( and their money ) to change the rules effectively banning the rotaries. Fantastic machines.
i remember looking at an early performance bike mag and seeing trevor nation racing a lambo in it,a week or so later i went to a mates party in salisbury and fuck me the nation was there, remember he had a 4x4 sierra with p/plate, nation written on it,got chatting with him and spent the following weekend at thruxton as a guest of his with team loctite, and im sure his teammate was that dick on sky sports, keith hewen.trevor gave me his rear tyre from one of the races and a couple of visors
trevor nation did the brighton speed trials one year, going down the whole track on the back wheel, then came back and laid down a monster doughnut that left a black circle in the tarmac you could see years later!
God this brings back fabulous memories! I used to follow these guys up & down the country come rain or shine. Nothing....absolutely nothing could, or ever will, compare to the sight of those beautiful black beasties roaring past! Ah, the thrill of it all!
There was nothing like seeing the black Nortons fly down the back straight at snetterton over taking Rob Mac on the Yamaha and Reynolds on the Kawasaki. The JPS Norton looked real cool clad in black, but the best feature was the sound, oh the sound, it was awsome.. Happy days.
