Specials Real Life, Real Drama

Every time a Special Constable gets ready to go out on duty they never know what they will face. But for most specials it is the unpredictable nature that attracts them to the role. During the day Hannah Carter, 20, works at an estate agents but on Friday nights she puts on her uniform and joins her fellow Specials to become part of the Essex Police family. Watch the team during a Friday night shift dealing with fights, a broken down motorist and a stolen bike.

Special Constables have full police powers, uniforms and equipment just like regular officers. The only difference is that they sacrifice their free time on a voluntary basis, organising their busy personal lives, day jobs and other commitments around police duties.
