1500 years ago, Irish monks lived in tiny stone huts on the island of Skellig Michael. Today it's a visit you'll never forget.

  • Thanks for posting this. i have just been watching a documentary about this island on the Discovery channel. i was fascinated to hear it was purchased by Britney Spears in 2001 for $35,000,000.

  • Hi Bonnie - I think that must be somewhere else that she bought. Or perhaps she tried to buy this but didn't? Skellig Michael is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a Special Protected Area in Ireland.

  • Hi Jessica - Yes, I was there, and it was amazing! If you're ever in Ireland, it's definitely worth trying to get here. Thanks for the comment!

  • what was that music at the beginning?

  • A loop from Medieval Village, from shockwave-sound. Thanks for stopping by!

  • thxs i need to revise for english

  • ..."Now there are only birds" for today's modern monks (unlike those of Athos' monasteries) have no resolve to live on those islands. Catholic monks of the Western Rite were truly tough and tenacious monks.

  • Excellent presentation, well done noble wench.

  • I must visit this place. I came to know about it from Lorreena McKennit song

  • 9978 here a story continues ...

  • Great video! And I love your nickname - I've always wanted to meet an adventurous wench! For years I was fascinated by the Skelligs and tried to there several times, but each time the sea was too choppy for the boats to make the trip. Finally I made it over to Skellig Michael a few years ago. The skipper of the boat had a little dog who went out on the boat every time it made the trip. The island was every bit as spectacular as I had expected. Climbing the steps feels like ascending to heaven.

  • The monks must have had the best view in Ireland.

  • @alcoboyalcoboy No, i had a dream about it.

  • @bonnie43uk

My apologies for being harsh but in fairness you cannot be serious saying something like that??

  • @alcoboyalcoboy I love being called an Idiot, thankyou so much for your kind comments. xx
