  • I'm straightedge, and I thank you for sharing this song with the world, for real.

The world desperately needs more well-rounded, educated, informed straightedgers. You're exactly right, a person struggling with an alcohol/tobacco/drug addiction is not able to just drop it and remain sober for the rest of their lives, like magic.

But straightedge can be a positive force to help people (specifically kids) from reaching a life of addiction and abuse, without being cold and forceful about it.

  • My point is Jeff Ott is more straight edge than all these silly kids that have no idea what life is really about. Fifteen, crimpshine, minor threat, gorrilla biscuits, etc... where all preaching about responsibility and morality long before these over testosteroned football players took this punk philosophy and ran with it.

  • I was "straightedge" till I moved to reno where there was an actual "straight edge" scene that was pretty whack. It was basically a way for jocks to participate in the emerging hip 'counter culture' that was a product of the last 15 years of punk(this was 96/97). What a horrible job those guys did of taking a very positive philosophy and turning it into a retarded religion. I ran across a straight edge website the other day that has a lineage back to that reno scene. Still jocks w tinybrains

  • LOL the comments make me laugh so hard saying that jeff ott is stupid and dosent know shit he knows more than some dumbass kid that is supposedly straight edge for 1 year.

  • @jeffott

Thanks, Jeff! You probably hear it all the time, but I just wanted to say that your music has helped me through my addiction over the years more than I can express through words, and for that I am forever thankful.

Also helpful: my (Suboxone) DOCTOR/[psychiatrist! Not some fucking straight edge crap. Though straight edge is great for people who haven't started using yet

Addicts/alcoholics need professional help, not Ian McKaye as he was in the 70's (or now for that matter).

  • I like how the people commenting on this video only heard what they wanted to hear, and missed the most important part:

"... I think , if you're a person who's not an alcoholic, I think straight edge is probably a great thing for you.. But I think if you're a person who has a problem with drugs an alcohol, you have absolutely no business whatsoever to use straight edge AS THE MEANS OF DEALING WITH THAT CONDITION"

    Fuckin' dumbasses.

  • so gay

  • WHY? Nowhere does he say WHY he thinks that Straight Edge doesn't work for those with dependence issues. WHY? I'd like to hear more than, 'It doesn't work.' If you make a statement like that, back it up with something other than just guitar chords.

Also, he mispronounces MacKaye, a name which rhymes with WHY.

  • @bastlake God's made that happen.
