I love visting Prairie du Chien.

It's pronounced, "Prairie du Sheen" and "Wisconsin", not Wesconsin.
Villa Louis = Villa, not as in the Spanish Pancho Villa, simply Villa.
You got the Louis correct, (Lew-wee).
Praire du Chien is the second oldest settlement and incorporated town in the state of Wisconsin, Green Bay being the first. The only battle of the War of 1812 fought in Wisconsin was fought in Prairie du Chien in 1814 and is re-enacted every July on the grounds of the Villa Louis where it took place.

The grotto you seen is from our old catholic school for girls. We are the 2nd oldest city in the state of WI. Many of our homes here date back to the early 1800's and if a city can still be here surviving after 200 yrs then it must be the place to live !! You forgot to check out the school for boys where NORM from Cheers went to highschool. Boy you people are strange !!

I grew up in PDC, as a kid I wanted out. Now as an adult I wish I was back. You cant beat living in a river town like Prairie.

I grew up in a small town and one of two things usually happen--You get bored or too many people know your biz. So, you suck it up or hit the road. I hit the road. In comparision, PDC is not as bad as some of the other towns I've visited. There are parts of America that remind me of a third world country. I guess that's what we are becoming.
