@Samuelohehe Because of the way it stands out at the end, my guess is that its purpose is to sum up the end result of the struggle described in the song. To me it means that he probably had the last word, finally ending it with "you do not need me" instead of giving her the commitment she wanted.

i love that in his last interview he said he'd give all of his musical success away in an instant to have her back in his life. Its a damn shame they don't sing together anymore.
