June 28 was a special day at the UMDNJ Farmers' Market. The sky was sunny and blue, musician and University Hospital (UH) payroll analyst Bruno Lee played mellow tunes on his horn, and Alfred W. Murray, New Jersey's Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, paid a visit to check out all the fresh fruits and vegetables available for sale. Chef Gregory Dukes (above left) from UH's Food and Nutrition Service prepared and distributed samples of an Asian vegetable and noodle salad to more than a hundred hungry shoppers. Lauren Kolesa, RD (above right), clinical instructor for SHRP's Live Well! fitness and nutrition program, answered questions about the benefits of fresh produce and discussed the Department of Agriculture's new MyPlate campaign, which replaces the Food Pyramid. Two local television stations, NJN and WMBC, covered the event. The Farmers Market features New Jersey vendors and is sponsored by the UH Auxiliary. It will continue through the end of October.
