In this episode, Charles Anderson from Golden Fuel Systems goes over all of the new features found on the new 40 and 60 gallon Trekker Series tanks.

In addition to the 12 and 20 Gallon Capacity tanks, the Trekker Poly System is now available in single-chamber 40 and single-chamber 60 gallon Tanks with the ability to combine these tanks for multiple set-ups. These systems are modular and could expand to double, triple or quadruple chamber systems with capacities up to 240 Gallons (4 - 60 gallon Tanks).

Dual, Triple and Quadruple tank systems allow for the ability to collect and filter oil in cooler weather. This is a great feature if there are no home filtration capabilities or if you travel great distances and need the ability to collect, warm and filter oil through the filter bags placed over the 8" port. Multiple tanks for on-board filtration are a necessity in cooler weather as cold oil does not filter well and you will need a method to warm the oil before filtering (1+ Tank for Heating, 1+ Tank to filter into). We recommend filtering oil between 80°-120°. For more information on Collecting and Filtering Oil, please purchase our Liquid Gold II DVD or Box Set of DVDs available here.

In addition, the 2+ Trekker Tank Set-ups are upgradeable with the Integrated One-Shot Filtration System or Integrated Half-shot Filtration System for even easier on-board filtering. The Integrated One-Shot (IOS) or Half-shot Filtration (IHS) System allows the user to control the filtration system from inside the vehicle. No more standing out in the cold to pump and filter oil! Just Transfer oil from an oil container with the 7 GPM Transfer Pump (available upgrade) into the holding/warming tank/chamber. When the user is on the road, they can flip the switch for the IOS/IHS and activate the filtration system. It will draw the warm oil from the holding tank/chamber (tank number 1), filter it through a heated Racor Aquabloc filter and discharge it into the clean tank/chamber (Tank number 2). This is an unparalleled mobile collection and filtration system for the cold months.

  • My questions for you are endless:

-How cold can you collect the oil? (i live in canada....)

-Do you ever have to clean out the "dirty tank"?

-Can you run more than 1 tank in a loop? (say 3 or 4 60 gallon tanks?)

-How many times should you generally filter and settle the oil before using it as fuel? I see you doing 1 to the dirty tank, and 1 to the clean, and im assuming one to the engine? Is this sufficient and reliable with moderately clean restaurant oil?

    - How cold is the system rated to?

  • @bodaggin 4) If you're gathering inherently good oil, the dual tank one shot setup is adequate. If you're filtering at home and you let your oil settle for long enough, it can filter out well enough to go directly into your use tank. So gathering oil that's settled well in a grease bin, then going to the dirty tank to be filtered into the use tank is enough. I highly recommend you check out our DVDs on our website if you want to know more about filtering oil, they're a great resource.

  • @bodaggin 5) There's no magic number for how cool a system is rated for. Different restaurants use different oils all of which have different melting points. Each vehicle circulates different volumes of coolant. Because of these variables, each system, in each climate, getting oil from different oil bins is going to have a different amount of time it takes for the car to get up to normal operating temperature in order to switch over to vegetable oil (5 Continued on next post).

  • @bodaggin So to answer your question, each person is going to have a different amount of time they have to start up on diesel before their vehicle has warmed the vegetable oil up to the point that they can switch over to run on veggie. That being said, we ourselves run our rigs in Alaska and have customers in Fairbanks Alaska that run on vegetable oil. Start up times may be longer in the winter of course but you can still run on veggie.

  • @bodaggin Our systems come with some of the best warranty policies in the industry. If something breaks within the warranty period we will ship you replacement parts in a timely manner. That being said, we have rigs running our systems in the harshest environments, from Phoenix, AZ to Fairbanks Alaska. All of our components and overall system are designed to withstand these extremes. All parts are designed to work for an extended period of time, no special maintenance required.

  • @GoldenFuelSystems One other question as well. What is the reliability of the system over time. I see that the conversion systems require upgraded valves, hoses and maybe a fuel pump? What kind of lifespan do these parts have in your tests and customer experiences? Is there a maintenance schedule for these aftermarket parts, and if so, how long would you consider the upgrades to last before needing replacement under normal driving conditions? Thanks! You are doing great work!

  • @GoldenFuelSystems Thanks so much for the in depth reply. I'm really interested in conversion and may be starting a snow removal business. A veggie oil truck could greatly reduce costs and increase profits if it can be done even in the Canadian winter! I assume that even if the oil gels, it will be warmed up after startup with the heaters and become useable after a period of time?

  • @bodaggin 3) Absolutely. If you have a need to run more than 2 tanks in parallel it can be done.

  • @bodaggin 2) The tank may need to be cleaned out eventually, however much of the particulate matter going into the tank will be sucked up and filtered by the One Shot Filtration system if you have the dual tank setup. That means changing the filter when it becomes clogged will generally be enough.

  • @bodaggin 1) It depends. Palm oil is solid at 60 degrees where as other oils will be liquid. We've actually collected in Canada and it was getting down in the 40's at night. If you're in your home town. Have the restaurant you're getting your oil from back in the jugs for you and leave them inside the restaurant where it's warm. Pick the oil up when its ready.

  • @LindsayStone Absolutely. If and when you get ready to start looking for a Van. Feel free to give us a call. We can give you tips and recommendations to help you along the way.
