The Higgs Boson is an elementary particle predicted by the Standard Model of particle physics. It is the only particle of the Standard Model that is yet to be detected. Experiments attempting to find the particle are currently being performed using the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The LHC is an enormous circular tunnel built underground, which accelerates protons towards each other at near light speed. When the protons collide they create a shower of other particles, revealing the fine structure of the universe. It is hoped that this process will enable the detection of the Higgs Boson.
