Award-winning actor, Gary Sinise, famous for his various roles including Lt. Dan in the movie Forest Gump, and NASA engineer Ken Mattingly in Ron Howard's Apollo 13, has done a public service announcement for the Veterans Administration to raise awareness of soldier suicides. Thanks to Mike Francis of the Oregonian for bookmarking this video on his blog.

  • Thank you Mr. Sinise. My son took his life after returning home from Iraq. I worked with our congressman just to get this hotline in place.

  • Thank you Gary.

  • Does anyone who watched this think that part of the way to fix the problem of soldier suicide would be to stop deploying them to fight these illegal wars?

  • I respect what you do Gary, this will help.. The Vets I know are over medicated patted on the ass and told to get on with their lives. Medication is not to used as a solution in most cases but as a tool...Medication is supposed to be used stabilze a client so therapy can be used to get to core issues. That is not being doing with a lot of Vets I know and know of...........

  • Very good vid.

*salutes to both the VA & Mr. Sinise*

  • Thank you VA for looking after Veterans who may be thinking about suicide. Please continue this effort.

  • Just thanks for this... Cannot quite find the words. I haven't been in any war, don't know relatives who battled but I also wanted to die a few years ago and tried to kill myself. It's something I'm not really proud of but now that I'm still alive, I realize that there are good things to fight for... That man is just awesome, not only because he's a great actor, but also because of his kindness and humanity <3

  • Way to go Gary. You are a true credit to your country.

  • Great video...thank you!
