Flying the plane by Leeds Pond and the Science Museum looking out over Port Washington. Technically Leeds Pond is in Plandome Manor. I got great altitude on this one, but the flight ended with a steep dive into the water, smashing and submerging the camera. I had to use a special corrupted file utility to get this video off the card, which sadly still cuts out before the dive into the water

  • I grew up in Port Wash...cool to see this vantage point. I've seen other YouTube vids taken from RC planes and they are all really great. Not sure what the range is, but one guy got up nearly to the cloud deck somewhere in the UK...might not have been an RC though.

What kind of camera and how did you mount?

  • My plane is electric, so it can't get as high as the gas powered planes. But for the most part I find the most interesting footage is when I am close to the ground and just skimming over rooftops. The camera was an Aiptek PenCam, duct taped to the top of the wing of the plane

  • what was your max altititude?

  • I can only guess. I tried to go as high as I could to see far, but I doubt if it was much more than 500 feet or so.

  • Wow..great shot....Looks like fun..Very cool

  • Very cool. Maybe you can fly around the train trestle further up around the corner in Manhasset. That would be really fun to see....especially if a LIRR train was going across. I'd love to see the expression on the engineer's face. ;^)

    Thanks for the reply.

  • thats so cool. i live in manhasset and its really cool to see some parts of my town at that altitude
