"Die Lorelei" is a German folk song based upon a poem which was written by the Jewish-German poet, Heinrich Heine.

This song is so beloved by the German people that it was impossible even during the Nazi period for the Nazis to censor this song from the people. The only thing that the Nazis could do was
to say that the author was "unknown."

The music of the song was written by Friedrich Silcher (1789-1860).

In the poem it is said that there was a beautiful woman, who used to sit and sing from the top of a cliff, which is located on the right bank of the Rhine River. Her singing and her beauty were so seductive that the sailors, who were passing the dangerous cliff, could not take there eyes off of her. Then they and their ships were smashed against the rocks of the Lorelei.

A live performance of "Die Lorelei" sung by amadea (Mezzo-Soprano) in an Easter Concert, accompanied by a guitartist and a cellist. April 2007.

  • Why DIE Lorelei my name is Lorelei I really dint understand that

  • ...sin olvidar que "Loreley" se convirtió durante el régimen nazi en una clave musical de resistencia contra el régimen de Hitler, como sucedió en Austria con "Edelweiss". Ambas canciones, por supuesto, prohibidas por los nazis.

  • Yes voice is great, and you can believe me, it is german (I'm from Germany). But as Haffax already said with an obvious accent. I don't really understand (and I can sing this song memorized) the text because of her accent.

  • Im German, so I can say that she sings the original german lyrics by Heinrich Heine but with an obvious accent. It seems like she got told how to pronounce which words, without understanding it.... but its ok ;)

  • Yeah, Ilya is German, so she actually sings it during one of the arcs as you walk her home. Well, it's not voiced, but the BGM is Die Lorelei, and the lyrics are there.

  • you perform the song in the very specific way: it is magnetic by itself but you add something more to it by your interpretation and your voice, thank you, Dorothea!

  • It was in Fate/Stay Night. They play it only when there is a sentimental moment with Ilya and Shiro, and in Ilya's death in Unlimited Blade Works when it goes on about her and Berserker when they were still in Germany.

  • Voice is great, but this language does not sound german ...
