Just a little lesson on playing some basic reggae guitar rhythm. It's my first utube lesson so sorry about the random structure to the lesson and I forgot to make some other points. if you've got any questions etc just ask and i'll do my best to answer.

THE LESSON:
chords progression is /Am /G EM //
-Play the chords on the off beat, that is the "and" when counting 1and2and3and4and.
-use the bridge pickup on your guitar and go for a treble sound.
-If you've got a wah pedal play around with that and try to get that kinda modulating sound by moving the wah really slowly up and down as you play through the chords.
-Have a listen to lots of reggae tracks to get the feel.
-Go for small voicings of usual bar chords, use just the top 4 strings on your guitar D G B E.
good luck

  • The guitar I'm using in the vid is a 1978 Greco Eg800 Les Paul copy Made in Japan...a Japanese lawsuit guitar. This company went on to make the Fender Japans and the famous JV strat.

  • Hey everyone, and thanks for the nice comments, yeah the sound is abit out of sync, sorry about that, i've since worked out how to do better videos. For Henster37 about down or up struming, I suppose for me I usually strum up if I'm just doing a basic rhythm, just one hit of the chord on the off beat being sparse, also a tonal thing, aiming to get the higher strings first on the smaller chord voicings. If I wanna fill out the rhythm abit more I'll go for the down up approach, chik-a. Peace
