Pistol tips to help beginning handgun shooters acquire the confidence they need to handle their firearm. Gunsite Range Master Il Ling New shows you how to easily find your dominant eye.
Great explanation. I just found out I am cross dominant and now I know why I barely passed rifle qualification in the Marines years ago. Kept racking my brain trying to remember if I missed an explanation on this on the range but it seems they didn't talk about it when I went through since I have read quite a few posts that say they don't teach it in the military, at least not to POG's.
@zhukie I'm right handed, but left eye dominant. Also, I have a hard time winking my left eye. When I was a kid I struggled with my dad's air rifle shooting right eye/right hand. He told me to shoot left handed and that was the answer to my problem. I shoot pistols right hand/left eye, with no problem. I shoot rifles left handed/ left eye. I think it's more stable to hold the rifle's foregrip with the strong arm in offhand shooting.
You don't need a partner to do this. Just pick a target or point and do what she did, then close one eye then the other. Whichever eye has your target centered in your "ok" circle is your dominant eye.
It probably helped that I didn't try to shoot lefty from the start, so didn't get used to any other way. Of course its not going to feel as 'normal' RH. Glad I can shoot pistol left handed though :)

@zhukie Also, I shoot pool mostly right hand/left eyed, but can shoot left hand/left eyed when I need to. :-)

@zhukie
That's something I tried but can't do.

I am left handed, cross eye dominant. Decided from the outset to teach myself to shoot rifle right handed.

Ms Ling rocks. It would be interesting to know the problems with cross dominance with a rifle.
