Making a DNA model, which is in the form of a double helix, requires using four colors to represent adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine, the four bases that make up the genetic material. Make a DNA model to better understand it with information from a biology teacher in this free video on science.

  • @elisabethclemmie You could use cotten balls and toothpicks, or non-perishable foods such as peppermints, liquorish, or marshmallows. You might be able to make a small one that can hang from the inside of a shoebox.

  • omg i have to make a double helix by tuesday! D: im runnin out of time

  • Good info. To make an actual model at home, it doesn't work to make the ladder first and then twist it because it won't twist evenly and it also twists and distorts the base pairs which are supposed to be straight across from the sugar molecule of one outer strand to the sugar molecule of the opposite strand. It's best to make the outer framework first by wrapping wire around a cylinder-shaped object, next create the double helix, and lastly connect base pairs to stabilize it.
