同一天，全世界华人商会的领袖都来到南洋，他们在等待一个老人的死去和王子的归来
　　程氏家族第四代继承人程远从美国回来了、程远在归途上，有人在他船舱的卧室里藏匿大麻，恰巧，因为他跟别人换了舱室，躲了过去。与他换舱室的一对中国男女，男的叫李克金，­女孩叫伍月。李克金冤枉地被捕，伍月来到岛上，并请求程远营救李克金。程远正深陷在父亲去世之后家族的混乱之中，他必须跟费先生的女儿丽达联姻，必须稳定家族各方面的关系­才能从泥泞中走出来。
　　大姐的儿子皮皮虎视眈眈要夺权，爱他的二姐一意孤行，家族的元老七叔，希望他做傀儡，丽达的父亲随时都想一口吞掉程家，有太多的脉络要梳清，有太多的真相要查明。从此两个­毫不相干，天壤之别的年轻人程远和伍月都陷入到一个复杂的家族争斗的大旋涡中，越旋越深。伍月指望程远救李克金，程远依靠伍月做掩护去解疑惑。
　　在家族争斗的过程中，伍月替他挡了一枪，程远发现他渐渐爱上了身边的这个北京女孩。但是和丽达的联姻，也是家族的责任，责任重于生命，程远知道，他无法摆脱自己的命运。二­姐为了程远的安全把他送到了北京，并以自己的生命为代价替他扫除了家族内部的障碍，沮丧的程远再次见到了伍月，曾经沧海难为水。当他的事业逐渐走向正轨，他也发现自己逐渐­漩入黑暗中，这个黑暗，来自于仇恨，来自于报复。伍月把他一点一点地从黑暗中挽救出来。
　　身处动荡的程远又将怎样延续祖父的传奇程远不必再向他的祖先一样，把办公室设在大海前，眺望祖国。

@1989celebrity Im not sure if there are any english subs for this drama. I remember when it first came out DoRemMii fansub decided to sub this drama but they never finished it and i believe they never releases the episodes they subbed out to public.
