Ever wondered what your Bachmann Class 158 would be like with a sound decoder fitted? Hopefully this will help. The first set (158791) only has basic DCC decoders (36-552). The second (158868) has a SouthWest Digital decoder fitted to the powered car. I've completely re-made the light cluster on both sets which is actually much easier than modifying the factory-fitted one .

  • nice,iv just recently brought a bachmann class 158 and there great, but mine has no sound so hoping in the future ill get it sound chip

  • Thanks. It's a bit of a pain to fit, but it's worth it.

  • This project don't have the two bips in start up? The horn is a continuous sound (play while the function is pressed) or is a preset shot?

  • No it doesn't. The horn isn't playable - it's a single shot.

  • This is the South West Digital sound programme, so that could explain the difference. The speaker is the standard 20 x 40 mm version.

    Bye for now.

  • Hi, My controller is a Dynamis too. I asked because I want to put a sound in my DMU, but I have seen Howes projects with only short horns. And it seems by your video that you can take a long tone, am I right? And what speaker you use?

    Regards.

  • Yes, there are two horn sounds programmed into the decoder - ie single note and two-tone. The usual setting on the Dynamis controller is to have these non-latching, but on the simpler EZ-Command controller you press the function key twice, ie on and then off.

    Hope this helps.

  • This decoder has two types of horns? For single tone, the horn plays while keeping the function key?

  • Yes, they're all NMRI compatible.

  • would a sound decoder from a company other than hornby work with a hornby select or elite dcc controller?
