A dash along the last seven miles of the Oxford Canal (Northern Section) from the Stretton Stop to Hawkesbury Junction where the Oxford meets the Coventry Canal.
Just one lock, the Stop Lock at Hawkesbury, with a rise of a mighty 6 inches, installed to prevent the competing canal companies stealing each others water.
If you discount the Stop Lock, then there is a level pound from Hillmorton to Atherstone of a little over 26 miles.
It's hard to talk about the Oxford Canal without mentioning it engineer Mr. James Brindley Esq. who loved contours so much he hugged them -- at every chance he got. Mind you, when you notice that the Railway also hugs the canal (as often seems to happen) it proves to me just how good the original canal surveyors were in getting their routes right.
Just beyond the M6 Motorway bridge is what Mr. Atty quite rightly describes as "A hugely engineered bridge for what is only a farm track"
This is a sort of Sunday Night/Monday morning video with the first half shot traveling west into a setting sun causing a certain amount of lens flare and serving to remind me that I must either clean the lens more often or remove the wide angle lens and fit the polarizing filter in such conditions. It's a hard life being a cameraman when you're stuck with steering duties down the blunt end with the camera 67 feet away!
We moored for the night near Bridge No 14 at Ansty and were fed a wonderful dinner at The Rose & Castle which is heartily recommended.
great vidios keep on cruising if you see gentle winds on your travels give us a wave

Thanks a lot, we'll do our best. You might recognise us before we notice you, we're the ones with the big camera at the pointy end and the pineapple flag on the blunt end. We'll keep you posted about our next trip and practice the wave!
