Smithsonian Folk Life Festival, June 27, 2009
With thanks to Christopher Horan, who was kind enough to explain the Crwth for this video. Christopher, I wish you all the best in life. :)
Thanks to all who appeared in the video. I didn't get everybody's name, I regret to say. Additionally, Tom Jones is Welsh. Keep that in mind.
Thanks for watching, my You Tube friends. I am lucky to know each of you.
Love,
Betty

Respond to this video... Last factoid on Wales- Wales is derived from the old english word Wealas or foreigner. We Welsh call ourselves CYMRY which means compatriot. We call the English Saeson which means Saxon. The Welsh language is the modern day British language as in Brythonic celtic. We are the original inhabitants of the mainland of Britain. The English turned up relatively recently around 1500 years ago , so kind of rich of them to call us the foreigners!.

@anmoose Just to correct you welsh is not a gaelic language. welsh is P Celtic and Gaelic is q celtic. related branches of a same family of languages. For examples in Gaelic head is 'ceann' whereas in Welsh/ Cymreig it's 'pen'. also Crwth does have a vowel in it, w- the welsh alphabet is different to the english as it has extra vowels, y and w (oo sound) and letters which don't exist in English, so Crwth is pronounced Krooth.

I quite understand, Locktarorc. My hometown lies within a region that seems to be better known as "inside-the-beltway." I'm accustomed to it, but I resent it, too. :)

Dyfed no longer exists, it was created in 1974 from three counties Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and in 1996 it split back up. Although Dyfed is sometimes used to refer to those three counties as a collective.
Hwyl
A bitter person from Pembrokshire who enjoys rivalry with neighbouring counties and dislikes being grouped with them ^^

I`m glad Wales was able to attend the folklife festival which makes me proud to be welsh. Have you enjoyed our culture?

@CelticDragonWarrior I had a very enjoyable experience! My only complaint is about myself because I didn't plan ahead and wasn't able to see as much of the festival as I would have liked. I was on a different mission that day and had to divide my time. I loved the exhibits about Wales though, absolutely! :)

Cool! I've got some ancestors from Wales. We want to hit the Smithsonian museums when we head up to DC.

That's always my favorite reason for going back. I went to the National Cathedral on my last visit, but that was unscheduled and I didn't have enough time to get the proper footage so I never made a video. I'll go again, though. The cathedral offers a nice tour if you haven't been there yet.
I'm just like a tourist now that I don't live there anymore. I worked in DC most of my adult life, and never made the time to do a lot of these things.

Thanks for posting this - I wanted to go, but school prevented me. Do you know the name of the person/company who had the lovespoon table? There were some really interesting/unique designs.

Ah, I don't know! I moved the extra footage from this video into my external hard drive, and I haven't been able to find the connection for that drive so that I can retrieve anything just now. When I replace the connection, I'll go through the footage to see if I can find a name for you. I'm sorry you had to miss the festival. Maybe this year you'll get to go? I hope so!
