This is a video for Normal in Schools (NIS) discussing the need for compassion surrounding eating disorders.
YOU can tell your story too!
Be a part of this important nationwide
educational movement, this is a fabulous way you
can get involved and help us to teach the FACTS
about the critical illnesses surrounding eating
disorders. Please note that all submissions will
be screened for appropriate content and not all may
be aired, as applicable.
To participate, please record a short video using a
web-cam or low-resolution digital camera and
include the following:
1. State only your first name and describe a
little about your journey with eating disorders:
Example: "My name is Lucy and I have been in
recovery for binge eating disorder for six years."
2. Please incorporate two of the below concepts
into your film:
• what you feel the world doesn't understand about
eating disorders
• what you wish would change about our world
• the things you wish people would know about you,
instead
• what do you love about the process of recovery
• what do you find most frustrating about recovery
• what is something "magical" "spiritual" or truly
special that you learned about yourself during
recovery
• how has shame and stigma hindered your own
personal healing process
• have teachers or coaches at school hindered your
healing process
• has the health system or has health insurance
hindered your ability to heal
• is there anyone in your life you consider your
mentor in the recovery process and whom you
wish to thank? If so, why?
For example, you might say
• "My name is Lucy and I have been in recovery for
binge eating disorder for six years."
• "I have learned that the world is filled with
judgment when it comes to me and my eating
disorder. People call me 'fat' and 'lazy' or
judge me by my looks and refuse to see the real
me.
• "I thank my mentor, my grandmother, for helping me
see the amazing person that I am. This amazing
person has nothing to do with what others say
about me or about how pretty or thin I am.
This amazing person that I am has everything
to do with my inner beauty and goodness. I
love you gram for showing me the light inside
of myself and for helping me be the rockstar
that I am."
3. Once you have finished recording your video ...
please do the following:
• Please export your video from your digital camera,
iMovie, or web camera.
• (.mov is preferred but not necessary)
• (16:9 preferred with, 4:3 is also acceptable)
