What do you do when you are a little squirrel and you see a cat? Bark the alarm for the other squirrels. Listen and you will hear Kitty. Most people call the sound the squirrel
makes barking. This was filmed on a very windy day. You can hear the wind hitting the camera, ©2008 StarPir1315

  • I love it! Squirrels have such interesting calls - I've recorded them close-up and they have much quieter versions of the same call, usually when they're trying to defend their territory (in my case, usually my feeder project) from other squirrels that are trying to muscle in on their goodies.

  • It would be interesting to hear the different calls, that you recorded. There is one squirrel who cries at everything. This one will sit high up in a tree and cry if he sees something far away.

    Thanks, taburineagle.

  • That is a great opening...love it!

  • Thank you temp24Lno5.

  • Very vocal cat:) Sounded like he just wanted to play with the squirrel:D Visually arresting image of the blue sky and clouds and squirrel. 5 squirrel rating:))

  • Both were talking so much. It was so windy on this day. Thanks, seahue.

  • You're welcome! I actually have quite a few squirrel-call videos on my page. "Squirrels Speak Out!" has one call of a squirrel squealing *right* in to the mic! "Squirrel Defending it's Yard" has a similar call to your squirrel (I think a cat strolled through the yard, that's why it was calling out), about half-way through the "December Squirrliness" video, you can hear a few examples of the quieter version of their call, more of a "get away from me!" call rather than a "danger!" call...

  • The squirrel was really excited and you are probably right. That wind was fierce on that day. Thanks, azreaya.

  • Yes I guess you know how hard it is to film when the strong wind keeps hitting you in the face. The squirrels are strange some run off, but when they really know you are less timid. Thanks for sharing, NaturesFairy.
