Joseph Marshall III was born and raised on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation and is an enrolled member of the Sicangu Lakota (Rosebud Sioux) tribe. Because he was raised in a traditional Lakota household by his maternal grandparents, his first language is Lakota. In that environment he also learned the ancient tradition of oral storytelling.

My maternal grandfather was a Black Feather and I never met him as he died in WW2... He was a special man... and despite I'm not christian, I believe he's my guardian warrior/angel... My mother told me he was a special man, very caring... I'm sure my grandfather could tell me such wise words as he was a wise man... I'm walking in shadfow... but I keep going... towards the Light... Thanks for sharing. Pilamaya ye.
