Anthem Fail

On July 25, 1990, Roseanne Barr sang the Star Spangled Banner at a San Diego Padres baseball game at Jack Murphy Stadium (now called Qualcomm Stadium). Her performance is considered to be one of the worst ever performances of the American National Anthem ever, and even then-president George H. W. Bush called her performance "a disgrace".

To begin with, our National Anthem has a very wide range - an octave and a half, and almost calls for an operatic voice to do it justice. But that aside, she started singing in too high a key and while she could encompass the low notes easily, she simply fell to pieces when the music started to climb into the stratosphere. I know that people were offended, but the song is no piece of cake to sing. Rosanne realized it and covered up by being funny. What else could she have done??
