My first mod on my new CVC Telecaster was to add the Andy Summers-style all BRASS bridge. While I originally thought this would brighten the tone, after playing it I noticed it actually warmed it up quite a bit. So my assumption was way off! Great tone though, it should also be noted my bridge pickup was also mounted to the body of the guitar as part of the mod. Next up, replacing the neck with a Fender all maple slim C and adding a Seymour Duncan 59' humbucker in the neck.

Questions and positive comments appreciated!

  • Hi where did you got this brass bridge. This guy has a internet site or any kind of contact ? I Thank you in advance

  • @alexnismachin look up Armadillo Brass Bridge and you'll find it.

  • When comparing Message In a Bottle (nicely played btw), I feel that the brass bridge sounds a bit (or maybe even a lot) more nasal than the steel one. Were all the other factors (amp settings, strings, guitar settings etc) the same?

  • @camel747 great question! so there is one feature that did differ between videos because I wanted to try it out. I mounted the bridge pickup to the body, like Andy's, but I didn't have the proper screws (used the pickup mounting screws vs. wood screws) and I inverted the springs instead of using weather strips like Andy's. So the pickup is literally floating instead of resting on something. I have the proper materials now so can't wait to post the new vid. Stay TUNED! It's almost finished

  • According to the custom builders at Fender, the bridge plate on Andy’s Tele has a crack in it by the pickup hole (by the high E-string). Referens search:

    Anyway Cool project!

  • @1989Goodspeed oh yes, I def. did my research and saw that many times, but I just can't bring myself to crack a bridge that cost me $140! I'm really curious as to how much that really affects the tone anyhow, but I suppose it can.

  • very cool but i have to say i like the stock bridge better!!! anyway i absolutely love this classic vibe tele!

  • She's a beauty.

  • brass bridge way too nasally

  • So the green shirt indicates that you're playing with the steel bridge and the blue shirt indicates the brass bridge. Got it! It's not like steel and brass are two radically different colors or anything..

  • I'm all for a brass bridge.. but I don't care for those saddles or the lack of the "ashtray" sides. I'm no electrical engineer, but I have to believe that the raised sides of ashtray bridges screw with the magnetic field somehow.

  • That's really cool, nice job!

  • Yup, you can hear the tonal differences right away. I noticed that when I first watched the Fender Custom Shop video on the Andy Summers Telecaster, which I'd practially sell one of my organs for (and I'd have to, considering how much it costs).

  • @ia5662 don't crack that beautiful brass bridge. if it cracks over time fine, otherwise shape the sound with your amp or an eq just like all our favourite players do. I think it enhanced the quality of the tone as is btw.great demos.
