FATE OF EARTH - FATE OF BIRTH

I am the midwife in the beginning of this video, Candace Whitridge, and my concerns back in 1993 when this interview was done are proving prophetic. The inherent wisdom that women have to push life out of their bodies is slowly going into a disconnect mode, as it becomes more difficult to find caregivers who believe in this wisdom. This mini documentary addresses this fundamental truth, and encourages the empowerment of women to "remember before they forget". Well done.

@Kelspir Yes, because technology, like nuclear power is so wonderful. Can you hear my sarcasm. Natural is almost always best. There is a time and place for some technology, but most, not all, but most, births don't need it.

My first birth was in a military hospital, flat on my back, with monitors on. My forth birth was in a Birth Center sitting up in a hot tub. The difference is amazing. In October, my daughter will be giving birth in the same Birth Center! I'm so happy that I could instill in her the value of Natural Birth.

I will not ever look at these "machines" and feel I was disconnected from my son and could have brought him safely into this world on my own. Without the fetal heart rate monitors we never would have known my son rolled on his chord not once but twice. Without the quick intervention of the wonderful nurses (who didnt treat us as "things") and an emergency c-section my son would not be alive. To only be allowed a natural childbirth would mean I would be childless. Natural is not right for all.

an "illusion of safety and health" ? i don't understand. it is this very advancement of medical science that shows our human advancement, both technologically, and biologically, maybe even spiritually. If you classify every new thing as a danger to your way of life, you only make the transition more difficult. "the... same way we're afraid to see birth"- you can make it sound as horrible as you want, but what is "natural" isn't necessarily what is traditional, nor is it necessarily healthier.

I had a csection with my 1st which was the most heart breaking moments in my life. Hving my 1st vbac with a doula then going to the hospital was great till they took my baby away because she passed a stool in my tummy. My 2nd vbac with my midwife and doula was amazing, the healing I NEEDED, but wish my 2 had that. See has so passed a stool and midwife never took her away from me. She told to be breastfed.
even though birth is something that a woman will only do a handful of times in her life, they are very profound moments that shape her as a mother, and in turn shape our future.
