Every year the capelin, a smelt-like fish, roll on the beaches to spawn. This only happens in Newfoundland. Very easy to get a few to fry or salt and dry for later use.

    I'm surprised. I read that in days of yore the capelin spawning was a major event and a major part of the Newfie diet. Everyone would turn out to net them in a major organized effort..

    You guys just let them go to waste nowadays?

  • I used to see this at MIddle Cove, just outside of St. JOhn's when I was a boy. Nothing reminds me of home more than this, great video.
