Agriculture accounts for about 24% of Kenyas GDP with an estimated 75% of the population depending on the sector either directly or indirectly. Much of the intermittent strength and overall weakness in GDP and income growth in Kenya can be attributed to changes in agricultural performance. The horticulture sub-sector of agriculture has grown in the last decade to become a major foreign exchange earner, employer and contributor to food needs in the country.
