Pepperdine became the second consecutive first time winner of the NCAA College World Series as they outlasted two time CWS winner Cal. State Fullerton, 3-2. The game winning run would be hit in the 5th inning by the Waves number-9 hitter shortstop Eric Ekdahl hit his first home run of the season for a 3-1 lead. Pepperdine was able to hold off a late charge in the eighth as second baseman Steve Rodriguez made a diving catch and throw-out to end the inning.
