Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN is a historic site known for the use of the McGavock home as a make shift hospital to wounded and dying soldiers in the civil war era. It is reputed to be haunted by generals, soldiers, and a soft hearted lady, Carrie McGavock:and possibly one or more of the McGavock children. Horses thundering over the open fields, moans and wails have been heard, and the frequent sighting of a General pacing the porch have been witnessed by numerous guests. Blood stains are still visible on portions of the original hard wood floors in some of the rooms. Some visitors have smelled the rich odor of blood. Is it their imagination? Or is it possible that spirits and timeless footprints cross the plane from our present time, and remind us of a bloody battle that ended one feud and too many lives? It is a haunting place, but is it haunted?
And if you know Franklin you know that its very rare for gunshots to be going off late at night except maybe new years or the 4th. So that's my story I just know that there was no one around and no reasonable explanation for sounds of battle to ring out in the middle of the night in Franklin TN. I can't wait for someone to get a well known paranormal team to investigate this place and the Carter House. I've heard folklore about both places but none that was well documented

I've been there many times over the years at different times of the day and night. The house did not used to have any gate or security so me and some friends went up there in the middle of the night and were sitting in the gravel parking lot waiting for something to appear in the windows or trees or anything and nothing happened untill we were driving back out to the road and we heard gunshots all the sudden. I don't know how to explain that they did not sound like normal gunshots but they didt

I went there as a tourist and as we pulled up my family saw a man standing on the balcony. He appeared to be wearing a general outfit. We later learned that no one was allowed to be outside on the balcony. I also saw a silhouette of a bearded man in the halls.

I thought it was weird when the guide locked the main door with the skeleton key when we entered. Was she trying to keep the doors shut or something else. I have read that the piano was upstairs and would play random notes and thought it strange they moved it downstairs. TAPs should come check this out.

I did have a paranormal experience. I went up stairs to the slaves quarters in total darkness and as I walked up the stairs I heard something drag like cloth or fabric. I tried not to focus on it and freak out because I was all alone. Then as walked away from the building I heard a distinct metal object hitting the floor, trying not to panic and run I watched both door ways.
