Video showing an ambush on a Soviet Convoy in Afghanistan, loosely based on the ambush on page 135 of "The Bear Went Over the Mountain: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan" edited by Lester Grau.
Page 135 of both copies I've seen of this book are titled "Escorting a truck convoy from Kabul to Gazni". This video bears only a very minor, superficial resemblance to the story told in that. The initiation of the ambush differs, the reaction to ambush differs, and the role of CAS differs (there are no downed helos in the book). Is this supposed to be a different vignette than the one that's actually on p135?
@Dslyecxi The customer only provided the first operational graphic from that vignette and asked us to build a generic ambush from it. He wanted first and last vehicles hit with an IED and there to be an attack aviation response. We didn't find out until later that the graphic was from the Bear Went Over the Mountain. Guess I should change the description to say it's loosely based on the ops graphic. I apologize for the confusion.
