  • I grew up with this breed and all I can say is they are wonderful canine companions. Protective, loving and loyal. Skye and Dawn are now in heaven but I remember them fondly & will never forget them. I also disagree with the training comments I had no trouble and I was a child! Guarding is a wonderful ability and they protected us more than once from both humans and other dogs! The breeding has more to do with temperament and trainability!

  • Ahhh stop saying Why-maraner!!!

It's German so the Wei part of Weimaraner is pronounced as Vi, so you say it as Vi-maraner

I disagree with the one bone for training! I have two male Weimaraners and they do exactly what they are told, I found training them very easy.

  • In my opinion, this breed would look quite a bit better if it had its tail docked to the second joint and its ears cropped to resemble a Dobermann's medium crop. Then again, if their used as working dogs, the ears should stay natural in order for them to help channel scent to the nose.

  • loves the water?! the weimaraner i grew up with absolutely loathed and almost feared water, from rain and pools to sprinkling it on her with your fingers!

  • isn't there a dog out there without brittle hips?

  • My puppy of almost 9 weeks knows stay, sit, lay, and High-five. So no i don't agree on the training apart.

  • @CounterCanter888 that sounds great but what i really want is a cavalier king charles spaniel

  • and i would say 5 treats for smelly farts!

  • I have a 4.5 yr old Weim (Kim) who is the most placid, friendly dog you could ever wish to meet - She loves kids, and is friend to every dog in the local park.

A year or so ago, we bred from her (to a great quality weim) and Kept one of the male pups (Bentos). His character is completely different from his mother's in a great many respects. In the home, he is even more affectionate than Kim, obedient to the letter and is no trouble at all, but he is incredibly aggressive with all other dogs.

  • grew up with a weimaraner. he was the best dog ever. when he died, my mom got another one. terrible personality. didn't compare at all. so i guess it all depends on the individual
