The initial impulse was to mimic ocean waves moving up through a beach, but the mechanical action caused the sand to collect on one side. Abandoning this idea, it was found that staggering the direction of the 'circulators' created a different and more nuanced feeling. Rice was more interesting than sand. The title plays with 'Brownian Motion', the property of molecules in a liquid or gaseous state to always be moving about.
were this motorized, i fear that i could watch it for hours. then again, that goes for much of your other brilliant work as well. meditative and mesmerizing. who knew what delicacy and humanity could come from steel wire...
