In this entry, I go over some coatings available for use on the costume to prep it for painting. Cover Steve's Foam Coat from SFX Suppy, Gesso, Plastidip and the really cheap option of Foamies if you have textured foam that just won't smooth out. Also show the bolter which I will talk about more in my next entry.

  • how ill foamies work on that shoulder pad with that curved surface?

  • @jszarecki If you're using them on the shoulder pad area where the symbols go...it's a a basic matter of cutting pieces to fit with the curve. The best way would be to use the same pattern you used to make the part in the first place, adding a little extra on the edges to account for the larger surface area. I'm using foamies to make the symbols and not having any real issues. It's not a "perfect" fix, but it's certainly better than just leaving them.

  • To be honest... the first when i saw you video... i thought (that was the one of 29/may/2011) "O god...that dont even look like a space marine helmet"

But i was curious, and checked your other video's (just subscribed your channel) was more then stunned what you did with only some foam.

I think you did a great job! And i really hope i can see more of it soon enough (or when your just wearing that whole armor without any paint jobs) Just to look at it how it looks

    Good luck further!

  • Do you have a website where I could get the blueprints for this?

  • i gotta say that is a mighty fine helmet. if mine turns out as good as that, i will be a happy cosplayer

  • Another great armor blog, Lord Isiah! I like the discussion of surface coatings. Many of these are scarce - so I will have to come up with alternatives. But your effort is much appreciated. Can't wait for a painting blog.
