RARE - Red DeLorean DMC-12 on Freeway

saw a red delorean on the freeway today. i thought it was pretty kool. deloreans ive seen have always been metallic in color. i spotted him in the "Golden Triangle" where the i-5 and i-805 meet in del mar, san diego ca.

No DeLoreans have ever come from the factory painted that were ever sold to the public.

I owned a painted one - the famous blue one #10246. I bought it in Tennessee and brought it to Louisiana. I stripped the paint (documented with pics) and learned why most DeLoreans are painted - accidents.

10246 was hit on the drivers front wheel well and improperly fixed. To hide that most shops cannot repair the SS from an accident, paint is/was used to cover over the uneducated repairs.

hello to you all again , ITS MY CAR !!! OK now .... the stuff on the back is a bannana , a can of beer and a egg ( remember bttf last 5 min of the movie doc goes to the trash can and puts trash into mr fusion ) as for the color it was deliverd that way 30 years ago NO it has NEVER been in a wreck NO it has not been repainted and yes i drive it as much as i can !!! in my reserch on my car 1 black 1 red both in L.A. then mine so in the first 1000 cars only 3 were painted again thank you ken

@Amenisis Technically that's true except for the three 24kt gold plated cars consigned by AmEx. I own a late '81 and keep it stored in Chicagoland.

I did know some DMC Midwest club members that had one yellow, and another painted red by choice. I don't have the racing side stripe, but it's available as an aftermarket add on also. You could have the DMC dealers add it as an option too.
