http://dummyjim.com. This British Sign Language interpreted bus tour of Edinburgh took place on 6th July 2003 and was organized as part of an event called Deaf Focus Film Festival.
This was the press release that was issued for the festival:
Scotland's major Deaf cinema event is back! Last year was a hit with Deaf and hearing audiences alike, with sell out screenings and great reviews. Expanding upon that success there's an extended programme, increased seating capacity, a brilliant kids' programme on Sunday, a feature premiere from Brazil and Q&A's with special guests.
On Saturday, three shorts programmes feature the best recent drama, experimental and animated films made by the Deaf and hard of hearing. Films include a UK premiere of C4 commissioned 'TRICKS' by Sam Dore; 'SKYE' by Bim Ajadi, a stylish psychedelic, drama and 'HEAR NO EVIL' by Amanda Mundin, a dark comedy full of energy.
Programmed alongside these Deaf-made shorts are bold and thought-provoking works from hearing film makers who work with the Deaf community and/or Sign Language. These include Ian Clark's instant classic, DEF, about a Deaf rapper; Matthew Humphreys' Royal TV Society award winner 'THE LOST REELS' and 'SIGN/SING', a documentary on Dundee's Deaf Choirs Festival. Many film makers and actors will be in attendance.
On Sunday, the kids' programme (ideal for family viewing) includes two real gems to put a spring in your step. From France, Pierre-Louis Levacher's enchanting 'KEY TO THE STARS', Cilla Ware's hilarious BAFTA winner 'DREAM ON' and also a magical animation - 'SEA SONG' from Canada. In the afternoon, the feature length version of Vee TV's powerful drama RUSH 3 is followed by a Q&A with deaf actress Sarah Beauvoisin who plays the character Mel - a chance to get a view from 'the inside'!
"A combined programme of quality deaf & hearing-made films brings directors, producers and distributors from both communities together, hopefully forging lasting, fruitful, creative connections" says Matt Hulse, the Festival's director and programmer.
"Whilst our primary aim is to screen and promote great short films, our festival also serves to celebrate Sign Language. Film makers, film lovers, programmers, film students and BSL users and the simply curious should make the effort to be there".
The unmissable gem at the heart of the event is a special one-off preview screening of the inspiring feature 'MARGARETTE'S FEAST' from Brazil on Saturday evening. We highly recommend this film, and we're delighted to announce that the director Renato Falcao will be in attendance.
STOP PRESS!
