A powerline was knocked onto the Purple Line tracks just past Foster Station in Evanston following a storm June 30, 2011. The fire, just behind Northwestern University's Engelhart Hall, burned brightly for several minutes before fizzling out. The Purple Line was down for at least the rest of the night until firefighters could remove the powerline from the tracks. "It'll kill everyone [if we go up there right now]," said one firefighter.
One onlooker thought the fire was from fireworks.

  • beware it may spread towards u

  • @irockutube72real It would have had to spread across a parking lot first, and the wind would have blown it the opposite direction.
