"ONE evening in 1985, I was watching a documentary about the Vietnam War. At the end of the program there was one thing that I found hard to comprehend: the average of the soldiers was only 19. I decided to make what I call a musical documentary about the Vietnam War and that is exactly what "19" is. I don't pretend to know the hows or whys of the situation or if it was justified or not. All I do know is that it is something i'm glad I did not have to go through, especially at such a young age and I hope no one else does in the future. I received hundreds of letters from veterans thanking me for doing the song, which made recording it even more worthwhile." - Paul Hardcastle
