Kalifa Jengi (Mali Blues) - at Vounda-Bar Goethe Institut Dakar, Senegal

Excellent stuff I recorded a bit of (with a simple digital camera that no way does this group justice) on the 5th floor of the Goethe Institut's building - at the Vounda-Bar in Dakar, Senegal . Beautiful evening. If you ever get the chance to see these fellows - do so! The percussive instrument on the left consists of two calabash halves. The instrument on the right is a N'goni - the grand-daddy of the American 5-string banjo.
