This video is a little overview of the notable personalities, places and events along the Pacific Coast on the United States. It mainly focuses on the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. From the boom days of Roy Shire in San Francisco and the peak of the Los Angeles promotion to the heydays of pro-wrestling in Hawaii and Don Owens' legendary Portland Wrestling in the Pacific Northwest, pro-wrestling has always been exciting and dynamic in these areas along the Coast.

  • Moondog Ed Moretti has done two interviews with us at sportofwrestling. com and both interviews focused on Roy Shire and his promotion in San Francisco, we talked about all the greats, as well as how the promotion got started, and eventually went out of business. Both interviews are available for members, and memberships are just $5.00 a month

  • @sportofwrestling I actually heard your plug on B&V and was thinking I'd check it out sometime.

  • My favorite was the feud between Blassie and Tolos. I still remember watching the incident on Channel 13 when Tolos threw the powder into Blassie's left eye and (so the story went) partially blinded him. Blassie came back a few months later and fought Tolos at the LA Coliseum. Thanks to a pair of brass knuckles that Black Gordman slipped to Blassie, he managed to carve up Tolos' face!

  • @kingsfan1001 When I started making these it was mostly to compile a little video and try to give people a glimpse into a specific area, but I get so much wonderful feedback from people who feel nostalgia when they watch them. It really makes my day.

  • OMG! I just relived my youth. The only thing missing was Dick Lane shouting "whooooaaahhh nellie!" Thank you for posting this awesome video!!!

  • @MWMTalent - yeah, I'd looked a little for some Dick Lane, but it was tricky because he did so much non-wrestling stuff. I try to mainly include audio and video from youtube, so everyone can easily access it if they're curious.

  • I intend to do Canada, which will include Vancouver. The Pacific Northwest is so unique because of the overlap with Canada. Not to mention things like AWA in Winnipeg, Stu Hart running Montana, Mid-Atlantic stars in Toronto and the Detroit-Windsor-Toronto ties. I'd really like to give Canadian promotions their due in a Canadian video.

  • I hope that there is some footage out there of Buddy Austin. In 1963, he and The Great Scott held what is now the WWE Tag Team Championship.

  • @wrestlingscout Thanks man. I appreciate it. We are going through some major upgrades right now.

This video that you posted and your whole page are amazing, good stuff!

  • @wrestlingscout I actually used to tape (on cassette tape) some of the wrestling shows in the early 1970s when I was about 10 years old. This was before VCRs were prevalent. I think that I still have these tapes buried in the garage! Tolos and Blassie were the best interviews. Dick Lane would ask them a question and then just let them do what they did best- rant and rave and get the fans all riled up. It was great. I knew that it was all fake but I still loved it! Thanks for posting.

  • Much thanks 4 some great memories.

  • @wrestlingscout this is great-look forward Canadian stuff thanks much

  • King Curtis passed away Dec. 4 in Honolulu at age 73
