  • Well i had never heard of Mr. Monaco untill two days ago, he was great!

I don't belive he has the most beautiful of tenor voices..that i still give to Caruso.

He hasn't the charm of Tomagno, as his versions of Esultate show.

He is very powerfull and that in it's self does not make him great.

Gili was great, Caruso was great, Tom Burke was great...Monaco is impressive.

Oh and paul potts is quite dreadfull!

  • Just to clue you in since you do not seem to know much about him, Mario Del Monaco is GREAT!

  • Pavarotti was very afraid of this man. motice he never mentions him in any of his interviews because he knew Dolmonaco would blow him off the stage

  • To mention Paul Potts in the same sentence as the Late Great Mario Del Monaco is Sacrilegious, insane, utterly ridiculous ,it's like comparing a Ford focus with a Rolls Royce. MDM was truly 1 of the very greats.. if you want to compare some-one to him try Franco Corelli or Caruso.

  • Il re dei Tenori Straordinario Bravoooooo!!!!!!

  • which language he sings? Not french, definitely..

  • What a great presence. Not to mention his overwhelming singing voice, his presence on a stage would be very impressive....I even could see/feel it in this film. Bravo!

  • What language is this?

  • The Gr8 Lauri-Volpi once claimed that del Monaco had the best B flat of 'em all! After U witness this performance, Lauri-Volpi was 100% accur8=) That B flat has it all! It's perfectly focused. The masterful balance of Chiaro/Scuro. The Squillo is amazing. How I could only wish I was in that theater 2 hear what it must've sounded like!!! No wonder the audience went berserk=)Bravo 2d Gr8est Italian Dramamtic Tenor of all time!

  • @JCLAWS By the way, Monaco actually succeeds in pulling off something close to pianissimo in his 1963 studio recording with Resnik and Sutherland. Such amazing sounds he made!

I like his reception to the applause here.

  • I'm sorry, I do not follow the criticism, but that has never played Othello Caruso,Tamagno? What we incision perfect record, so that it can compare to that of Mario Del Monaco.

At this point, I dare say that Malibran was the greatest soprano of all time! But, we have only passed with no news from any recordings.

The only perfect and powerful voices of the Opera were due.Giacomo Lauri Volpi and

    Mario Del Monaco( R.I.P.).

  • @dretety

How come you didn't know or heard about Monaco before?

  • and please, take Paul Potts out from all this!
