Hot rail on the New Haven Line!!!!

Seen from Metro-North eastbound train # 1508 is west (southbound) Amtrak train #95 (Boston South Station to Newport News,VA) on Track 3 with AEM-7 #917 on the head end meeting #1508 as 1508 slowly approaches CP 271 west of New Haven, as the MNR Rail Traffic Controller District G (Metro-North Railroad Operations Control Center in New York, NY) prepares to slip Grand Central bound train #1545 thru CP 271 westward before us.

While it looks like from my video I was dangerously close to the oncoming "Toaster", this was made just along the cab window frame of the rear car (my operating position on this train) also using a zoom. No conductor was hurt, or even remotely close to being hurt, in the making of this video!! :-) As my employer stresses.....SAFETY FIRST!!

The "toot" from the Toaster was due to maintainers being on the right of way just past the position where this video began shooting, hence the working limits stop sign seen just after the passing of the train on opposite Track 2.....again safety would never be compromised!!!!!

Nope!! The idea is just to hold the camera about 3 inches outside the cab window sill, and not for nothing zoom was largely used here, so it was a lot closer than it appeared. Also when the Amtrak toots the horn, this is common practice for trains passing one another to blow the honr as a form of a warning to anyone who might be in the track area around the train out of sight.
