The "40 Days for Life" campaign got underway today -- the goal: to bring an end to abortion. The campaign has drawn people from all walks of life -- young and old, men... and women. And it's pro-life women who are having a dramatic impact this year -- especially in politics. You're seeing it from coast to coast -- from Carly Fiorina in California... to Christine O'Donnell in Delaware.
Meanwhile, here in New York, we got to hear from some other pro-life women just last month, at an event marking the 90th Anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.
@MrAbolitionist
No they opposed it because they were middle class fucks with no use for abortion, so they would seek to deny it to those who do need it.

So what if there is an emotional bond?
Also your continuous use of the word "child" is incorrect it is actually a fetus.
How am I turning it into an abstract subject?

@carthage397
That is impossible. Humanity would die out in about 100 years probably less.
If you want to talk about that possibility well...I don't really see the relevance because it wouldn't happen and the potential problems with it have nothing to do with abortion but more to do with the economy and an aging population.

@angeltears87 let me ask you this....if a developing human embryo or fetus isnt a human being and abortion is woman's right and there is nothing wrong with it then would it be ok if every woman on earth for the next 300 years, when they got pregnant had an abortion?
in your mind would that be totally acceptable?

@angeltears87 pride is deadly. this is always been common sense....a woman is pregnant and automatically knows in 9 months she will have a baby (unless there are complications) . woman who are pregnant instinctively hold and rub their bellies and emotionally already develop a bond with their unborn child. you are trying to change something that is so clear and has always been understood into something abstract for purposes of convenience.

No sorry there is no objective scientific fact that states you are killing a human being. Sure you are destroying something that is technically alive and will be a human being one day. The central point of the argument is when does it become a valid life? When it is an egg? When it is born? Somewhere in between?
If my mother aborted me at one week (something that is unheard of) I never would have existed and who cares? There wouldn't have been a "me" to be upset.

@angeltears87 just because you can carry a developing human life does not mean you have the authority to say that it matters or not. the objective scientific fact is that a newly developing human person is growing in the uterus. . If you kill that developing child you kill a human being. if your mother killed you at 1 week of development you wouldnt exist today, you would be robbed of your very existence. No one has the right to take what is not theres....in this case another persons life.

@carthage397
I am to say what matters, if it is something in my body.
Everyone places a value on life. Do you eat meat? Is it ok to kill animals to eat them? Why?
Because you are think your life is more valuable then theirs.
"f you terminate it you kill a human life"
Not in anyway that matters.

@angeltears87 Also you tred dangerous ground when you say a human being with low consciousness is "not a human life in any meaningful way". What about a retarded person, senile elderly person, or someone who has mental illness...are their lives not meaningful?
It is logic that a developing "low level consciousness" human fetus will develop and become a "high level consciousness" human fetus, human baby, human adult. if you kill that person at any stage you are robbing him/her of their life.

@angeltears87 "any sense that matters"? who is to say what matters? that would require placing a value on life which would involve some ethical or moral compass. What matters to one doesnt matter to the other. The fact is a new, unique human life is created at conception, if you terminate it you kill a human life.
