Production Notes: After over four months in the making, Desert Ninjas II has finally arrived to youtube. Shortly after finishing Desert Ninjas, Travis and I realized we could make another one, but this time we wanted to do it on a much larger scale. And what a large scale it has been! This has probably been the most ambitious project I have attempted yet! We began brainstorming ideas right away. However, we were unable to begin filming right away since Travis went on a trip to Hawaii(which we take advantage of) and i had a few things to do at the beginning of the summer as well. This allowed us to write out a complete script. We knew from the very beginning we wanted more locations, more fighting, more characters and more development on the existing characters. Another critical decision early on was to kill off my character, Jumuzu, so that I could focus more on Directing. Shane expressed his desire to kill people(he was never able to do this in the first one)as well as permanently removing his mask. Much to Spencer's delight, we resurrected his character and gave him a larger part (Although he could never get used to his name). We also wanted to add several new characters. Emily, the damsel in distress, had a smaller part but a great deal of the story is based on her capture. Then of course, Sam, aka Shundiin, became Toravisu's sidekick. Another new character we briefly introduce in the Prologue is my brother-in-law Josh Marsden, a character I might not have added but for the day before Josh asked why I never used him in any of my videos and I realized we could easily put him in. If we ever make any more sequels that is a character I would like to expand. Additional characters include Ryan McGee(he dies a total of 6 times through both videos)Madison and Hannah McGee were extras in the village scene. I also was able to use my brother, Hyrum, who played several extras. So we finally began filming several weeks into July. We were far behind schedule and I soon found that the most difficult part about making a video like this is coordinating with everyone. Before we knew it, school had started again and we were worried we might not be able to finish it in time because Travis was going on a mission for the lds church in September. But by some miracle we were able to complete it by using Saturdays and scrambling over to the canyon after school. Actually, we were forced to delete several scenes for various reasons. Originally, there was supposed to be a brief scene right after Emerii is captured between Toravisu and his father. the scene was supposed to be entirely in Japanese with English subtitles, but the scene was never recorded because we were not sure that the person we were hoping would do it would do it and we realized it was relatively unimportant. There was supposed to be an elaborate horse chase right after the scene when Toravisu and Shundiin are cornered, but the horses we were going to use were sold. Then there was going to be a dining scene directly after that with a mysterious hermit who would tell them about the spring of life. The scene was never recorded because we were unable to persuade our ex theater teacher to help us. And finally we cut a fight between Shane and one of the assassins who stands up to him after receiving the order to execute Emerii. After a brief clash, Shane was to leap off the assassins leg and slice him in half. Needless to say I was totally bumbed we did not get a chance to film this one, but there is still hope it may end up in the next one. . .
