Ah! Seth. Desiree actually says "Yes, I must. I really must. NOW...." Now as opposed to No.

I love in Ragtime's opening number, when grandpa is "thoroughly annoyed by everything" and the way that the speech pattern should normally go down, but he just keeps it right at the same annoyed tone.

I'm obsessed with "Isn't that alarming? What is she a bird?" HAHAHAHAHA Genius

Seth, wonderful! I'm doing Night Music at the moment in Australia and will listen intently to it tonight... Played by Sigrid Thornton who is simply heaven.

Delightful, as always. The suicidal chanteuse has long been my favorite comic moment in OTT. But tellmewhatsahappenin is right. Desiree's line after, "I really must" is "Now — " not "No." It's just as funny; she's desperate to change the subject, but Frederick won't shut the hell up about her. She'd never say "no" that early; it would mean dropping the mask of bland politeness that's the whole point of the song till she learns that Ann's still a virgin and then explodes with venom.
I adore Carolee Carmello so much. I think she's insanely underrated!
