Putting the handbreak on wont hold it, it will move it just wont do much good for your handbreak. Putting the handbreak off and holding the car works better as the cars wheels are spinning trying to make it go one way while the people pushing it are trying to make it go the other way and as the driver puts his foot down more causing the wheels to spin faster this causes a better burnout. Thats why there holding it instead of using the handbreak

@techno1125 I think its just a tradition that you hold the car back when doing a burnout...of course it is usually done with a more powerful car or even by putting some diesel on the ground to lessen the friction.
