The venerable Brunswick Hotel, built in 1855, in London, Ontario was recently the subject of last ditch efforts to stop its imminent destruction. Efforts failed. We all came out for one last salute to a venue that was known for jump starting the performing careers of many a band and a singer and dancers too, among others. The 'Wick was an alternative and subversive counterpoint to the middle-of-the road life here in London. The rockabilly band, Duke Sedan and The Hi Tones organized a final show to be held out in the street to salute the first venue they ever played at as a combo. They were gonna play and we were gonna stay until we got shut down. Fans and ex-patrons gathered on the streets in tribute. Keep in mind, there was no sound system, as the doors were locked and the back of the building already had gaping holes in it. But that's the punk way to do it, isn't it? Goodbye 'Wick. You were our CBGB'S........
