This is the first song I've created with my latest shiny toy: Reason! It's an amazing program, taking only seconds to start up and mere moments to load a song! I'm used to going away and making a coffee while Cool Edit or Cubase starts up! As far as I can see, there isn't an easy way to record audio, but I've just been using the in-built sounds anyway.

I've been listening to too many soundtracks recently, and this is what came out! Think of it as my answer to "Duel of the Fates" or "Navras"! It's pretty much just lots of layered choirs and strings... Craig Armstrong would be proud of me! And the percussion is probably from listening to so much Hans Zimmer!

I love the the sampled violins and the incredible female choir, courtesy of the incredible Thor Polysonic Synthesizer. I hate to say this, but Reason may be giving even Garritan Personal Orchestra a run for its money! The Piano sounds good by itself, but a little plinky when mixed with the orchestra... ah well, maybe I'll try and tweak it better one day.

As always, I recorded live, playing each part on my keyboard without exception. I always find that makes the virtual instrument sound far more human than pre-programming it does.

  • What's at 2:19..., sounds like something is off just a tad. Not sure if it's an off note.., but something clashed at 2:19. Great song by the way. Awesome mix and the patches are very nice. Would make a great film score comp!

  • Hmmm, you are quite right, I think the high cello note doesn't quite go. It's within the scale, but it probably clashes with the piano. By the way, I've got to find a way to stop YouTube from destroying the quality of the soundfile, this video doesn't do Reason justice! The quiet strings at the beginning have been slaughtered!

  • i love your song is very nice......

  • That was sick. The orchestral parts kinda reminded me of Romeo and Juliet

  • Not bad but it doesnt have the necesary to call it a symphony, keep the good work anyway =D

  • Not bad at all

  • Epic

  • Really cool. It sounds amazing! I've got to go look this up!

  • Sounds alot like Craig Armstrong "Plunkett and Macleane" - Hanging (the part with the Choir. Opening similar to "Sunshine" - Surface of the Sun (John Murphy)

    Nice work though

  • That's pretty cool. I like your progressions and your instrumentation. It really tells a story. I'm gonna see what else you've made :)
