The Toyota plug in will have a 90 mile range on electricity before the motor kicks on.
The Volt just may back GM into hell.
I had a RAV ev for 4 years.
Toyota will once again capture another market while GM steps on it's dick.
We'd like to buy American,,, we'll see.

Actually, the EV1 gave GM a 10-year head start. There was an EV1 fan club, fanatical niche market, and there could have been many different models, serial hybrids, 4-seaters, trucks.
But GM blew it, and now, knows NOTHING of how good the EV1 was. Suckers.

The Chevrolet Volt in the future will be running on Green Fuel and be equipped with a more potent battery pack that can go twice the range.

I wonder if you still gotta pay for the inspection stickers. It's seems like a rip off that this is even mandatory. If not all at least 99% of 20 years old car don't got no problem passing.

I could not agree with you more.

it took toyota 5 or so years to recoup cost of developing the prius the volt a vehicle thats 12 years behind toyota will not save GM

GM was already the "first to market" in the EV class with the EV1 10 years ago. It worked great. They (GM) on the other hand, screwed the pooch, and us along with it.

Whats your complaint about GM?
"Generous Motors" taking tare of big things like "Hybrid GMC bus 1st priority" in big cities moving economy 365 24 7. that plan cost billions =less smog than 1000's of Avg. Hrs. of small cars. And long list of billions in research like life saving OnStar, & 60s GM cars with automatic lights on "sentinal?" Way before Day time running lights federal law "Engine on lights on". We dont hear of it, or other makes of cars would die out, I had used 60s Cadillac with it

Still burning gas is wrong? WTF? You can go all electric on this car and never have to burn a single drop of fuel on this car. Gas is just an option in case of an emergency or if you want to go from one side of the US to another. Stop being so narrow minded!

chev had the satuarn ef1 in the mid 90s that had a rnage of 100 plus miles

emforty2: The only thing new is the high price. The Volt concept car (estimated $30K price) was cool, but the Volt production car (estimated $40K to $48K) is hideous and bland. Nobody is going to pay $40K to $48K for a vehicle that automobile critics have dubbed "Grandma's electric vehicle". You can get TWO Toyota Prius cars for the price of the one Volt.
The Toyota Rav4 EV gets 100 miles. With old fashioned NiMh batteries.
GM is lying!
they do not want to make an efficient EV!
The EV1 was not a prototype it was ready on the market. Nevertheless they crushed the EV1.
They want that the customers are dependent on oil, cause then shareholders like Chevron make a lot of money.

Rav4ev had many many hundreds of pounds and many many thousands of dollars worth of the old nickel batteries. Apple to oranges comparison to a Volt.
GM has never said that technology was an obstacle. Implementing mass production with the right quality controls is. So I don't think they're trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes.

Just to clarify - they've never said new technology (specifically, battery cells) needed to be invented.
Getting those cells into packs qualified for a mass market vehicle is a rigorous task.
People who simplistically argue using past EVs as examples are either overidealistic, ignorant of the realities of profitable, sustainable manufacturing, or both.
