Professor Harry Smith is a Vice-President of the EES and has enjoyed a long and distinguished career as Edwards Professor of Egyptology, UCL and field director of a series of EES projects (more info: http://tinyurl.com/yepa9u7 ).
Professor Smith was interviewed by Chris Naunton for the Society's Oral History Project (http://tinyurl.com/ljbrxd ) in March 2009. Here he talks about the time when, as a student, he visited the great philologist Sir Alan Gardiner at his home in Oxford.
The Society is extremely grateful to Professor Smith for sharing his reminiscences, to Dr Alice Stevenson for transcribing the interview, and to the members of the Amelia Edwards Group for providing the funds to allow the Oral History Project to go ahead.
